Montgomery, Ala. – November 15, 2018 – TechMGM, the Montgomery Area Chamber of Commerce’s initiative to leverage the city’s unique technology assets, is celebrating National Computer Science Education Week by hosting a Raspberry JAM. Raspberry JAMs are community events where people get together to share knowledge and solve problems using a Raspberry Pi, a low-cost, high performance device.

This competition for Montgomery County high school students is an exciting opportunity for students to use their creativity and technical skills to develop a system using the latest Raspberry Pi. TechMGM is dedicated to promoting Montgomery’s workforce development starting with K-12 programs.

“We are dedicated to providing local students opportunities like the Raspberry JAM, that will inspire and prepare them to pursue the tech workforce opportunities in Montgomery,” says Charisse Stokes, executive director of TechMGM. “This is a wonderful opportunity to expose local students to an innovative product in the tech arena. These students are the future of Montgomery and we want to provide them the resources to succeed in our city’s emerging technology hub.”

Event Details

  • What: TechMGM Raspberry JAM
  • When: December 7, 2018
  • Where: MGMWERX – 41 Commerce St.
  • Details: Each student team will develop a solution to a problem with a Raspberry Pi using Bluetooth technology as an enabler. Teams will pitch their solution in three minutes before a panel of judges from across the tech community. The judges will evaluate the students’ ability to meet the requirements of the presentation, creativity, innovation and professionalism. The highest scoring team will win a classroom set of Raspberry Pis for their school.
