River Region “Future Eagles” set to receive aviation scholarships

MAXWELL AFB, Ala. – Media are invited to cover the presentation of 25 scholarships to River Region youth at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, January 10, 2018 at Montgomery City Hall auditorium. The students were selected after participating in a science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) focused essay competition hosted by the 2018 Gathering of Eagles program.

The scholarships will send 14 middle school and 11 high school students from River Region schools to STEM focused aviation and cyber camps at the National Flight Academy in Pensacola, Florida, in an effort to promote the continued study and education in aerospace based curriculum.

The Gathering of Eagles Foundation’s Future Eagles Scholarship Program aims to enhance the understanding of air, space, and cyberspace throughout the River Region with its community outreach efforts to local students. In addition to providing these 16 scholarships, in 2018 the foundation will also sponsor two, $2,000 Reserve Officer Training Corps scholarships for Alabama ROTC members attending college.

Scholarships will be presented by Richard Harr, Gathering of Eagles Foundation’s Future Scholarship Program lead.

The Gathering of Eagles Foundation is a private, non-profit organization that exists not only promote the exploration of aviation based curriculum, but to preserve aviation history within the Air Force. The Foundation supports the Gathering of Eagles program, part of Air Command Staff College’s curriculum at Maxwell Air Force Base. Sixteen ACSC students make up the year-long program and work throughout the year to honor airpower heritage by researching, interviewing, and capturing the stories of ten aviation pioneers.
